Who watches the Watchmen?
Be warned this post contains SPOILERS.
That is a rough quote both from the recent movie and some book… can’t remember which book though
. In other news the point of this is recently I saw the Watchmen movie. It was pretty good – mind you it was also pretty violent with nudity and sex scenes. You got to see Dr Manhattan a couple of times (he’s the blue one, known as Billy Crudup in the real world), some of those times it was a full frontal shot… without clothes. Yes. Also Nite Owl II (Patrick Wilson) and Silk Spectre II (Malin Akerman) got it on a few times as well.
Now swinging away from all those adult bits onto the blood and guts… there was quite a bit. Some guy had his arms cut off with some kind of grinder saw… a lot of people got bashed up, stabbed, in some cases loud crunches were heard as arms and legs twisted in very unnatural ways. Some guy got his head smashed through a toilet and then electrocuted. Yes. Was very violent.
Moving on as my bs teacher used to say. In the movie there were several heroes – most of who looked pretty cool. Mind you there were a couple who I just wonder… who the hell where they. I mean this one guy I think he was ‘Mothman’ or something… he did nothing. Up till where he got taken to a psychiatric ward. Also some random lesbian hero who got slaughtered – she did nothing as well.
Despite these useless characters there were some cool ones like Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley). See his costume was pretty cool, his face was covered by a moving black and white shape based off of what named him the Rorschach inkblot test, used for psychological evaluation. At one point hes arrested and they perform this test on him, some kind of irony there. Also Dr Manhattan – basically an unlimited source of power. He can make people explode into piles of reddy goo… can duplicate himself, teleport, do pretty much anything… Basically he’s that overpowered character who just looks cool.
In the end I do recommend you see it – that is if you like sleek yet violent movies.
